Marin Independent Journal Features Darren Walton's Vietnam War Memoir, Di Di Mau

Our client Darren Walton, a Marin County native who served as a reconnaissance Marine during the Vietnam War, was featured in the Marin Independent Journal for his memoir Di Di Mau, written with Michael J. Coffino.

The article traces how Walton came home in the early 1970s to a Marin County deeply opposed to the war, and chose to bury his service rather than talk about it, going so far as to burn most of his Marine Corps gear on a beach bonfire so he would not have to explain his past to friends and neighbors. It took decades, and his wife uncovering an old war citation while researching veteran's benefits, before Walton began confronting what he had carried silently since 1970. Di Di Mau, Vietnamese slang for move quickly, became the vehicle for finally telling that story after fifty years.
