India Currents Covers BABF Panel on Race, Caste, and Identity
Our client Bay Area Book Festival was covered by India Currents for a panel bringing together four authors of Indian origin, Devi Laskar, Vauhini Vara, Shanthi Sekaran, and Shruti Swamy, to discuss race, caste, and identity.
The conversation ranged from Laskar's childhood memory of Europeans unable to picture an Asian girl as American, to Vara's reflection on her father's strong Dalit identity against her own more distant relationship with caste growing up in the United States. Sekaran, meanwhile, spoke about shifting from a gut-wrenching debut novel toward writing for middle grade readers. Taken together, the panel gave India Currents readers a rare side-by-side look at how differently four writers from overlapping backgrounds experience questions of identity.
Bringing together multiple authors around a shared theme, rather than promoting one book at a time, is exactly the kind of programming our press campaigns help make newsworthy. Read the full article on India Currents.
