Marin Independent Journal features Darren Walton and Di Di Mau

Here’s an excerpt from the article:

Darren Walton hid his past after he came home to Marin County from the Vietnam War.

Walton, who grew up in Novato, wanted to fit into the local society where critical attitudes of the U.S. military were widely held at the height of the antiwar movement. He grew his hair long, surfed and typically avoided speaking about his military experience except with a few close friends.

One night, he traveled to Limantour Beach, where he built a driftwood fire and burned most of his U.S. Marine Corps clothing in his old duffel bag. That bag triggered his memories of the war whenever he saw it, even after a great day visiting Mount Tamalpais or being with his friends, who included college classmate Robin Williams.
